"Judge Taylor threw the case out of court" Blog 2

“-I seen that black nigger yonder ruttin’ on my Mayella” Bob Ewell
Well what a thing to say Mr. Ewell. I think that this quote ties in with The Scottsboro Trial. Tom Robinson has been accused of Raping Mayella Ewell, and there is no evidence, just the talk of the town, this same thing happened in 1931 Alabama. Nine African-American teenage boys were accused of raping two white American women on a train. But were the boys falsely accused? Let’s take a look, but how can we? There’s no direct evidence against the nine boys, oh and guess what? There’s also no direct evidence against Tom Robinson either. Back in the day there was no way to detect rape with the technology we have now. What happened was the boys were thrown in jail and the youngest was killed! what? how awful could this jury be? What should have happened was the boys not to be accused and to somehow find a way to be tested, and the youngest never should have died.

The trial against Tom Robinson is taking place and claws are flying. Like many trials are in the US right now. Many cases also aren’t tried enough and also aren’t given enough time to be prosecuted, some cases (like Tom Robinson’s) is officially declared unfair.  “Judge Taylor threw the case out of court.” quote from TKAM.

  1. I like how you compared this to the case of the nine boys on the train because it gave us the impression of how things were and how it happened.
