Women Are Just As Strong As Men

"You felt sorry for her, you felt sorry for her?" Mr.Gilmer seemed ready to rise to the ceiling. There are many different dates to when women were really free I think personally women don't really have the pleasure in some perspectives. What I feel is wrong with this quote is she is being talked down on like she couldn't handle a situation without people feeling remorse. What I think should have happened was that the people involved with this situation should have treated her like a regular person, and nothing less just because she's a girl. One recent event on the news is how many people feel Hilary Clinton is equipped for president because she is a girl I feel because she's a girl she would make one of the best presidents.

  1. Thalia, in that quote Mr. Gilmer isn't dissing Mayella's womanhood as much as he is putting down Tom's race. But people do feel sorry for Mayella's situation since she is acting as the mother of the children without being the mother, and her father is unkind to her. She didn't show signs she could escape the thrall entirely; her way of escape was to take charge of her sexuality and approach Tom rather than have brutality forced on her. If Tom's testimony is true, then she chose that in private. However society (or her father) has more bearing; that's why she denies this private act of defiance. A female would absolutely be a good president. Had Hillary Clinton found herself in Mayella's shoes, she would have probably found a way out of the Ewell home - but she hadn't been subjugated for 19 years, as Mayella had.
